Hidden with Christ
Hidden with Christ
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.—Colossians 3: 1-3
To be a Christian means that you are a new creation, born again, living after the Spirit. The logical conclusion of your being risen with Christ is that you will now seek those things that are above where Christ sits on the right hand of God. Because I am a Christian, because I am a new creature, because my spirit is now alive, I am interested in spiritual things, those things that are above.
**You are dead to that old life of the flesh, of the material things.
Paul makes the point in this passage that we, as Christians, need to seek the things that are spiritual rather than material, things that are eternal rather than temporal. John said, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world, for he that hath the love of the world in his heart hath not the love of the Father” (1 John 2: 15).
You are dead to that life that was devoid of God—that life that was in love with the world and the things of the world. Now your life is hidden with Christ in God.
May our lives, our thoughts, and our hearts be on the things that are above—that the Lord will somehow lift us above the corruption of this world and we might walk after the Spirit and invest our lives in that which is eternal.
Father, we thank You for the future that You have promised to us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Count the Cost In Luke 14, Jesus lays out the terms of discipleship. There were great crowds following Him. Everyone loved the miracles, healing, and free food. Jesus was cool, the talk of the town, and the latest fad. But He knew their hearts. He knew they desired the benefits of what He did rather…
