WISDOM FOR TODAY

Who Knows?

Who Knows?
For who knows what is good for man in life, all the days of his vain life which he passes like a shadow? —Ecclesiastes 6:12
Life is short, life is uncertain, and a life lived after the flesh is unfulfilling. This much we know. But after that, we don’t know much.
If we could choose between wealth and poverty, we would overwhelmingly choose wealth. Yet, which is best? The Bible contains many warnings for the rich. We don’t know what wealth might do to our attitude toward life and toward God.
**Who knows what is best for us? We don’t know. Only God knows.
Given the choice, we would choose health over sickness. Yet, which is best? Would sickness draw me closer to God and bring me into a richer relationship with Him? Or would it cause me to become angry with God?
What is best, success or failure? Again, given the choice, success would win hands down. Yet how many people have come to Christ because of some failure in their lives? At the point of despair and personal failure, many are driven to the cross.
Since we can’t know what the future holds, isn’t it wise to place tomorrow in the hands of the One who does know? Since we don’t know what is best for us, isn’t it folly to contend with God over the things He allows to enter our lives?
The wise man submits himself to God and trusts that He will do what is best.
Father, trusting Your infinite wisdom, we place our future in Your hands, knowing that You alone know what tomorrow holds. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
