Who Is the Lord?
Who Is the Lord?
Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.'” And Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, nor will I let Israel go.” —Exodus 5: 1-2
Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh with the demands of the Lord to let their people go. But he answered, “Who is the Lord that I should obey Him? I do not know the Lord, neither will I obey.” Who is the Lord? Pharaoh was about to get the answer to his question.
The Egyptians had chosen to worship the forces of nature. They made a mistake that many people make even today—worshiping and serving the creation more than the Creator. Jehovah, the only true and living God, made His demand upon Pharaoh, but Pharaoh professed ignorance of Him and an unwillingness to obey.
What was God’s response? He revealed Himself to Pharaoh through the plagues He brought upon Egypt—darkness, boils, flies, and frogs, water turned to blood, death; plagues that tormented the Egyptians, but spared God’s own people.
**Who is the Lord that you should obey Him? There is no excuse for not knowing Him.
He is the God who has revealed Himself through nature, through His Word, and through His Son. He is the God over all the universe, the Creator of all things, the King of kings and the Lord of Lords, the eternal Almighty, all-powerful, loving God who invites you to know Him better today.
We thank You, Father, that we have come to know You. We want to know You even more. Amen.
