Who Am I?
WHO AM I?
Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said: “Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?” —2 Samuel 7:18
It was Nathan the prophet who brought God’s word to David. “David, you can’t build a house for Me, but I will build a house for you. Your son who will sit upon the throne after you will build the house for Me. And I will establish your throne forever.” David rightly understood this to mean that the Messiah would be his descendant.
David was so overwhelmed by this, he excused himself from Nathan, and sat down before God. He recognized his total unworthiness and realized it was God’s grace that had been showered upon him in such abundance.
Like David, you may be saying, “Who am I? I’ve done something wrong. I have messed up.” Take a look at David’s life. This guy was no angel. He did a lot worse than you have; yet look what God did for him.
* It sometimes seems that God looks for the least likely candidate to bestow His love and His goodness upon.
God so often goes to the gutter to find the recipient for His grace. He lifts him out, washes him, and transforms him—making him into a child of God fit for His kingdom. That is God’s grace.
Thank You, Father, for Your abundant grace. Despite all of our failings, You loved us and began to heap upon us rich blessings. But if that were not enough, You have spoken of the eternal age to come and the glory that shall be revealed to us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
