Where to turn when troubled…
Where to Turn When Troubled
And so it was, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord. —Isaiah 37:1
When the powerful Assyrian army threatened to besiege Jerusalem until its inhabitants starved to death, Hezekiah responded to the crisis by going straight into the house of God.
**When you need to get your life in perspective, there’s no better place to go than into the house of God.
Asaph, the psalmist, said, “My feet had almost stumbled; my steps had nearly slipped. For I was envious of the boastful, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. …When I thought how to understand this, it was too painful for me— until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood their end” (Psalm 73). Being in God’s presence, in God’s house, gave Asaph an eternal perspective.
An amazing transformation happens when we view our problems from God’s perspective. Troubles that look huge and hopeless when seen from our human perspective will suddenly seem like nothing— because we know that the God who rules the universe can handle them.
The Lord has promised to help those who call on His name. “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you” (Psalm 50: 15).
Correct our vision, Lord. Give us an eternal perspective, that we might bring our life into balance. In Jesus’ name, amen.
