Where is the God of Elijah?
Where Is the God of Elijah?
Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over. —2 Kings 2: 14
Elisha had seen the power of God on Elijah’s life. In fact, he saw a chariot of fire take the prophet into heaven. Now the responsibility of being a prophet to the people rested upon Elisha, and he knew he could not serve apart from the empowering of God. So he cried out for help.
“Where is the God of Elijah?” Elisha sought help from the God who revealed His power on Mount Carmel. He wanted Him to reveal that same power before the people so they would know that Jehovah is alive and He is God.
**God doesn’t change. He wants to show His power to this generation.
Living in this age of skepticism, I also cry out, “Oh God, show Yourself. Prove Yourself, Lord.” My cry is with Elisha: Where is the God of Elijah who can demonstrate His power as proof unto the people that He still lives?
We are not seeing the demonstration of God’s power in our world, but the fault lies with us. God is alive and in control. May we be a people who cry out to Him; a people through whom He is revealed to the world.
Father, we seek the power of Your Spirit at work among Your people, to see Your name glorified on our lips. May we be the instruments through which Your power and love are revealed. Amen.
What one thing could I do differently this week to become effective in matters of faith?
