What is Man?
What Is Man?
What is man, that You should exalt him, that You should set Your heart on him…?—Job 7: 17
We are each but a speck of dust on a speck of dust called Earth, which orbits around the sun in a little corner of the Milky Way galaxy. Yet, the Scriptures say that God’s thoughts toward us are so great, if we could count them, they would outnumber the sands of the sea.
It is amazing that God thinks of us. Even more amazing is the fact that He magnifies us—above plants, above animals, and even above the angels. Job wanted to know why. “What is man, that You should exalt him?” It is God’s way.
**Whenever a life is yielded to God, He magnifies that person.
God makes a person greater than they could ever be apart from His working. God does this because He loves us. He loves us so much, He gave His only begotten Son, who became what we were in order that He might make us what He is.
*And thus, God develops and trains us. He allows trials and disappointments because He knows that is the only way to prepare us for eternity. Like Job, who went through a time of testing in which he lost everything he had, we sometimes go through loss or disappointment. But each loss is part of God’s eternal plan as He prepares us to be with Him forever.
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness to mold us into the person You want us to be, and to take away anything which would destroy or defile us. How thankful we are that You have set Your heart on us. May we walk in that love. Amen.
PS Easter Sunday is one of the christian’s biggest days of the year. Will you pray and ask God for one person whom you might invite to church who might not otherwise go or be invited?
