WISDOM FOR TODAY

Unbelief
Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief. —Mark 6: 5-6
Throughout the area of Galilee, Jesus met with throngs of people. Everywhere He went, He brought blessing. He comforted the brokenhearted. He healed the blind and the lame. He preached the good news to the poor. By the time He returned to Nazareth, a multitude of believers followed in tow.
But Nazareth didn’t receive Jesus the way others had. No sick were brought to Him. No hurting came for comfort. Instead, the unbelieving people stood by watching and scoffing and questioning. Where did this hometown boy get this wisdom? Where did He get this power?
**Our limitations come when we refuse to receive God’s power.
Jesus loved the people in His hometown just as He loved the people everywhere He went. There was much He wanted to do for them, but their unbelief kept them from receiving. His power wasn’t limited; God’s power is limited by nothing. The limitation came in their refusal to receive His power. Because of their unbelief, they didn’t bring the lame, the blind, or the sick. They didn’t give Jesus an opportunity to minister.
Jesus wants to bless you today. He wants to heal, soothe and teach you, but when you forget He is there and He is able, when you keep Him at arm’s length because of your unbelief, you rob yourself of blessing.
Be aware of the danger of unbelief. Guard your heart. Nurture your faith in Jesus, that you would never limit His work in your life.
Father, we pray that we would not be guilty of unbelief. Help us to trust You to do that work in our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
