Trust In The Lord
TRUST IN THE LORD
The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him. —Nahum 1:7
God never promised that once you committed your life to Jesus, He would keep you immune from pain and problems. He only promised that when you went through trials—notice that is “when,” not “if”—He would go through the pain with you, and would see you through to the other side.
**When trouble comes to you, where do you turn for help?
Do you turn within, hoping to find power within yourself? Do you look to other people to help? Or do you try to get by with the help of some mottos: “What you can’t cure, you must endure” or “Just grin and bear it” or “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can,” like the little red engine?
Everyone has trouble. That is an inescapable part of life. We live in a world in rebellion against God, and as a result we live in a world filled with chaos. In the day of trouble, there’s only one stronghold to whom you can turn and find safety, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ.
Don’t turn to others. Don’t turn within. Don’t think some optimistic little saying will get you through your troubles. Instead, put your trust in the Lord. He will walk through the trouble with you, and when you have emerged on the other side, you will see the wisdom of His plan.
Father, when the storm rages all around us, draw us to Yourself. We know that You are good and loving. Teach us to trust You in the midst of our confusion. In Jesus’ name, amen.
