The Purpose of Life – Spiritual Goal Setting 2019
The Purpose of Life
You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created. —Revelation 4: 11
Why am I here? What is the purpose of my existence?
If the evolutionary theory is true, those questions are moot. If there is no God, and no specific plan or purpose for our existence; if life is truly about “survival of the fittest,” then life is completely meaningless.
People set a lot of goals for themselves hoping that if those goals are achieved, they will fill the void within and find happiness. But if there is a God and we have been put on this earth to bring Him pleasure, then we will never find fulfillment until we set ourselves to fulfilling our purpose.
**When you live to please God, you fulfill the purpose for your existence.
Paul wrote, “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2: 13). That is good news. It tells us that God did indeed create us for His pleasure—and that He will enable us to fulfill that purpose. If you yield to Him, God will plant His desires within you. If you offer Him your whole self—heart, soul, and mind—He will give you the capacity to do those things that will honor Him.
When you live to please God, you fulfill the purpose for your existence. Instead of seeing your life as a random accident or a meaningless journey, you see it as an adventure. You view every day as an opportunity to see the work of God and the hand of God in your life.
Father, help us to learn what pleases You, and set ourselves to doing those things. May our thoughts, our conversations, and our actions bring You pleasure. Amen.
