WISDOM FOR TODAY

The Promised Prophet

The Promised Prophet
I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him. —Deuteronomy 18: 18-19
To the present day, Jews recognize this as a prophecy concerning the Messiah. Just as Moses was a mediator who brought the Word of God to the people, so the promised Prophet would be the Mediator who would bring God’s Word to the people. A mediator is necessary because of the fact that God is infinite and man is finite. Man cannot understand or comprehend the infinite God.
**Because I am filled with sin and iniquity, I cannot approach God who is absolutely holy and pure. So I need a Mediator.
This prophecy in Deuteronomy was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Paul tells us in 1 Timothy that there is only one God and one Mediator between God and man, and that is the man Christ Jesus. He can touch God because He is God. He can touch me because He became man. And now through Him I can touch God.
God kept His promise. Jesus Christ is that Prophet, that Mediator. He is our comfort. He is The Word through whom we have life, strength, love, forgiveness, hope, and peace.
Father, thank You for sending Your Son to provide the forgiveness we need. May we walk in the light even as Jesus is in the light that we might have fellowship with You. In His name we pray, amen.
PS I visited with Merylin Laird yesterday at church. She was married to my Pastor Viv for 60+ years. The very center of their marriage was Jesus. He was the benchmark thru which they viewed all of life. Viv often told me of the need to get my priorities focused on Him (Jesus) and everything else was secondary and would be GIVEN to me.
He was right! (Matt 6:33) Ministry is not easy work. Pray for your pastors!
