WISDOM FOR TODAY
The Perfect Friend
The Perfect Friend
A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.—Proverbs 18: 24
We are not always lovable. That is because we are prone to mood cycles. I might be lovable one moment, and quite the opposite the next.
**A good friend loves you no matter your mood.
It can be hard to find a friend like that. But I do have one Friend who loves me regardless of my mood. He knows every part of my character—all the good, and all the bad. In fact, there are no secrets between us. He knows all my flaws, all my weaknesses. Yet He still loves me. He is the one who initiated our friendship. And He is the one who sustains it. He sticks with me through thick and thin, and when others have deserted me, He remains. He has promised that He will never leave me, never forsake me (Hebrews 13: 5). I have failed my Friend countless times, but He has never failed me. He forgives each of my offenses. He counsels me when I need advice, and I have never yet found Him to be wrong. His thoughts are always of me. He never seems to think of His own welfare, but He is always concerned with mine. In fact, He loves me so much that He laid down His life for me. He did it for you, too.
Father, we thank You for Your only begotten Son, who laid down His life that we might be Your friends. Lord, we pray that even as Abraham was called Your friend, so too we may be called the friend of God. We want to know You intimately. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
