The Passover
Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. —Exodus 12: 13
God has been so patient with the Egyptians. They had afflicted His people for at least eighty years. But He didn’t just wipe them out. He gave them preliminary notices that the day of judgment was arriving. He gave them the opportunity to change and to escape His judgment.
In proclaiming His coming judgment, God also provided a way of escape for the children of Israel. As long as they remained in the house with the lamb’s blood on the door, God said, “When I pass through the land, they will be safe.”
The chief characteristic of God is love—love that is beyond our capacity to fully comprehend. But God is also righteous, so the wicked must be judged. Ultimately, the righteousness of God must prevail. It has been a long time coming, but already we are beginning to see a foreshadowing of the judgment that is to come. Are you in a place of safety today?
**God has made only one provision for your safety when the day of judgment comes, and that is in Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. We must rely fully on Him. There is no other refuge.
Father, thank You for the marvelous provisions You have made for us through Jesus Christ—that He bore our sin, He took our guilt, He died in our place, and His blood was shed for us. Thank You for Your patience, longsuffering, mercy, and love.
