The Lamb will overcome them
December 26 The Lamb Will Overcome Them
These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings… —Revelation 17: 13-14
Who would be so foolish as to make war against Jesus Christ? Yet we read that during the tribulation, the leaders of the world will try that very thing. But even when all the powers of the world unite with one strength, one mind, and one purpose—to make war with the Lamb of God—those godless forces will fail. “And the Lamb will overcome them,” our text tells us. The final victory belongs to the Lord. “He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall hold them in derision” (Psalm 2: 4).
***The world may war against Jesus but He will triumph—He is the Lord of lords and King of kings.
Nebuchadnezzar—the first world ruler—sought to battle against the Lord and against His word. He too was soundly defeated. After he came to his senses, he wrote these words: “And at the end of the time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: for His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation” (Daniel 4: 34). It may appear that the world is winning the battle, but never forget that the ultimate victory belongs to the Lamb.
Father, we wait for that day when You will subdue the powers of darkness that rebel against You and establish Your righteous kingdom upon this earth. May that day come soon. Amen.
