WISDOM FOR TODAY

The Jesus of the Scriptures

The Jesus of the Scriptures
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. —John 5: 39
The Bible is all about Jesus. In fact, Jesus is the central, overriding, pivotal focus of Scripture. You can find Him in every page. “Behold, I have come—in the volume of the book it is written of Me—to do Your will, O God” (Hebrews 10: 7).
God gave many Scriptures in the Old TestAment to describe the nature, the character, and the circumstances of the coming Messiah, so that when He came, there would be no question that He was the true Messiah. To help them recognize the Savior, God gave over 300 predictions and identification markers about His birth, birthplace, childhood, ministry, rejection, death and resurrection.
**Living for Jesus is not a once-a-week kind of an experience.
The Jews knew the Scriptures backwards and forwards. They had studied them diligently, faithfully. But Jesus said of them, “You search the Scriptures but you won’t come to Me that you might have life.” Knowing the Scriptures is not sufficient to receive the gift of eternal life. A lot of people have a false sense of security regarding their salvation, simply because they say that they believe God, but eternal life does not come from knowing the Bible—it comes by receiving the Jesus of the Scriptures.
Living for Jesus is a daily, hourly, minute-by-minute experience. It is yielding your life to Him and walking in fellowship with Him. It is falling in love with Him to the point where He becomes the very center and focus of your life.
Lord, we want to give You more than just a passing glance. We want to make You the very center and substance of our lives. Amen.
