The Greatness of Jesus
The Greatness of Jesus
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. —Luke 1: 31-32
How great is the Son? He is so great that John wrote, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (John 1: 1, 3). He’s so great that Paul elaborated on that by writing, “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1: 16). He is not only the Creator, He is the central object of creation. You were created for Him, and for His good pleasure.
We are told that He, “being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation… He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore, God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Philippians 2: 6-11).
**How blessed we are to love and be loved by such a great God!
Father, we are awed by Your nature—Your majesty, power, glory, wisdom, patience—and awed by Your beauty. May You come quickly for us, Lord Jesus. In Jesus’ precious name, amen.
