The God Who Sees and Hears
The God Who Sees and Hears
I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt; I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. —Acts 7:34
Standing before the religious council in Jerusalem, Stephen reminds them of the history of their nation, and of how God called Moses to go to the pharaoh to seek the deliverance of the people. God declared to Moses, “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt…I know their sorrows” (Exodus 3:7).
Sometimes our concept of God puts Him so far out in the universe that we imagine Him to be an impersonal force. We think He is so far removed from man that He really has little concern for His creation. Or we assume that God is unmindful of our pain or our troubles. “Lord, I have cried out, but You didn’t hear. You must not be listening.” But God is both listening and watching. He is not absent. “I have seen,” He assures us.
The Israelites must have wondered why it took God so long to answer their cries for help. We wonder the same thing. We want immediate responses to our prayers, but we must learn what the Israelites learned: What we perceive as late, God perceives as right on time.
**God is not in a hurry to accomplish His work. He is waiting for the perfect time, the opportune moment.
How blessed we are to serve the true and living God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth—the God who sees, the God who hears, and the God who helps in our time of need!
Thank You, Lord, for revealing Yourself to us so that we can know You and serve You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
