The Faithful Servant
The Faithful Servant
“Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” —Matthew 25: 21
All of us need to take a personal inventory and ask ourselves, what is it that God has entrusted to me? When we appear before the judgment seat of Christ, every one of us will give an account for what we did with our lives, our talents, and our resources.
**What has God put in my keeping that He will some day require an accounting for?
In this parable, Jesus tells us of one to whom five talents were entrusted. When his master returned, the servant had much to show him. “Lord,” he said, “you gave me five talents, and I have earned you five more.” To which his master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
He then promised to entrust even more responsibility to his servant, and invited him to enter into “the joy of your Lord.” All that I have done and am doing in my life is for the purpose of one day hearing those words, “Well done.” That is the motivation behind all I do. It is what I am looking toward and working for. If Jesus came today, would you be pleased to show Him what you’ve been doing with the things He has entrusted to you?
Father, we thank You for that which You have entrusted into our keeping and into our care. Help us not to be lazy about the service we do for You, but may we be diligent in using those things that You have given to us—using them, Lord, for Your purpose. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
