The Call to Mothers (and Parents)
The Call to Mothers
Let tears run down like a river day and night; give yourself no relief; give your eyes no rest. Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches; pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift your hands toward Him for the life of your young children…—Lamentations 2: 18-19
Believing themselves to be both sophisticated and strong, Israel tried to eliminate God from their national life. They considered Him to be no longer necessary. As a result, Babylon devastated Jerusalem.
Israel is mourning its ravaged city. Jeremiah, seeing that desperate times call for desperate measures, issues a call to all the mothers of its nation.
**Never underestimate a mother’s (or father’s) influence. When stirred, they can use that power to guide their children to righteousness.
Our country is in dire need of that kind of influence. Consider the atmosphere of our public school system. In 1963, the U.S. Supreme Court deemed it unlawful to pray or read the Bible in our schools. Since that decision, what has happened? On a national average, SAT scores have consistently dropped, violence and crime have become more prevalent, and drug abuse has skyrocketed.
The only real answer to ungodliness is a return to godly principles—those principles upon which our nation was founded. Not just mothers, but fathers too must teach our children what is right and wrong—from God’s perspective. We need to teach the next generation to seek God through prayer.
Here is a radical suggestion: this week, let’s turn our televisions off and turn our faces toward God. Let’s pray for our nation—and for our children.
Stir us, Father, to call upon Your name. Cause us to pray for our children, for our schools, and for our nation. Amen.

Paul’s friends, upon hearing these prophecies, cried and begged Paul not to go. But he answered by saying,…

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. —Romans 1: 16 In Paul’s early years, he was caught up in a religious system where man sought to be justified before God…

For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God. —Romans 2: 28-29…
