WISDOM FOR TODAY
The atoning Blood
The Atoning Blood
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul. —Leviticus 17:11
God’s Word declares that atonement for the soul comes through the blood. God’s penalty for sin was death. Thus, in that we have all sinned, we have all been condemned to death. And that death is spiritual death. Alienated and separated from God, man loses the consciousness of the presence of God in his life.
Our attitude toward sin is very casual. Today, we have a total misunderstanding of sin and the holiness of God. Man asks God to become a part of his sinful life. But we are told that God is so holy and pure that He cannot look upon sin. And surely the cross of Jesus Christ should convince you that God will not accept sin. God forsook His own Son when Jesus took your sins upon Himself.
**If God forsook His own Son because of sin, how can you ever expect God to be in fellowship with you as long as you have sin permeating your life?
Thanks be to God that when we look at Jesus Christ, we see God’s plan of redemption completed. Rather than trying to bring our own righteousness before God, we can come to Him through the righteousness of Christ.
Thank You, Father, that the blood of Jesus Christ brought atonement for our sins. Lord, we receive that cleansing this day, that we might live with You in newness of life. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
