Spiritual Warfare
Spiritual Warfare
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. —2 Corinthians 10: 3
It is possible that those times when we feel disturbed, upset, discouraged, despondent or depressed for no apparent reason, a spiritual force is to blame. We are all in a spiritual battle, whether we are aware of it or not. And in this spiritual battle, it is important that we use the right weapons.
One of the best weapons for spiritual warfare is God’s Word. “For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword” (Hebrews 4: 12). Every time Satan tempted Jesus, He responded with the Word of God. God’s Word becomes a powerful weapon in your life against the temptations the enemy places before you.
**Knowing how fierce the battle would be, God was careful to equip us to fight effectively.
Prayer is another important weapon, but strangely, people often reserve prayer as a last resort. How might our thinking about prayer change if we realized how hard Satan fights against it? He knows what we apparently do not—that prayer is the deciding factor in a spiritual battle.
God was careful to equip us to fight effectively. We have His Holy Spirit. We have the Word of God. We have the power of prayer. Let us use these mighty weapons to stand against the wiles of the devil who is seeking to destroy us and take us captive. May we use these weapons to claim the victory that Jesus has already accomplished through the cross.
Father, forgive us for relying upon our own devices. May we begin to fight this battle with the advantage that You have given to us in the things of the Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
