Sowing and Reaping
Sowing and Reaping
They sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no bud; it shall never produce meal. If it should produce, aliens would swallow it up. —Hosea 8: 7
God gave birth to Israel, but they forsook Him, and began sowing to the wind. As a result, He removed His protection and left them to their own devices. And now, He is warning, the wind that they sowed was about to reap a whirlwind from the north—Assyria, who would sweep down and scatter the nation of Israel.
** Sow carefully.
“Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap,” Galatians 6: 7 tells us. And nature proves that principle to be true. We reap in kind. If you sow corn, you get corn. You don’t get beans. If you sow mercy, mercy will be extended to you. If you sow forgiveness, you will receive forgiveness. If you sow wild oats… then you had best be prepared to reap the consequences for that. The problem is that we tend to not be selective enough. Too often, we sow mixed seed. We come to church and sow God’s Word into our minds, but then we go home, flip on the television and start sowing to the flesh. A mixed crop comes up, and with it comes a lot of confusion. If you sow to your flesh, all you can ever hope to reap is corruption. But if you sow to the Spirit you will reap the fruit of the Spirit and life everlasting.
Father, keep us from being deceived into thinking we can sow whatever we want and not have to suffer the consequences for those choices. May we sow in righteousness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

By Chuck Lawless In seventeen years of doing church consulting, no church leader has said to me, “Our church really doesn’t want to do the Great Commission.” I’ve worked with many churches, though, that proclaim the Great Commission but never get around to doing it. Here are my conclusions about why churches so often fit…
