Setting Our House in Order
Setting Our House in Order
In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die, and not live.'” —2 Kings 20:1
There are so many things I intend to do before I die. There are people I intend to call, cards I intend to write, words I intend to say. And I know that if I were to receive the same message from the Lord as did Hezekiah, my initial reaction would be much like Hezekiah’s, “Lord, can You wait a little while?”
**I want my house to be in order before the Lord calls me home.
When I stand before God, I want to be able to say with Paul, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).
Before long, all of us will stand before the Lord. When that happens, you will either stand guilty in your sins, or innocent in Christ. Is your spiritual house in order? Are you ready? If not, you can set your house in order by establishing the right relationship with God and, through God, the right relationship with your family and friends.
*Remember: there is no guarantee of tomorrow. I pray that when God calls us, we will not leave unfinished business behind.
Father, help us adjust our lives and our schedules so that we will accomplish those things most important to You. May we speak that word of love, or that word of apology that someone else needs to hear. In Jesus’ name, amen.
