Power
Power
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. —Acts 1: 8
In this conversation, just before His ascension, Jesus is declaring to His disciples that they will soon embark on a seemingly impossible task. They are to go into all the world and preach the good news of God to every creature.
They couldn’t fulfill this task in their own strength. But Jesus promised that they would receive power. The word in the Greek is dunamis, from which we get our English word “dynamic.” They would receive dynamic power, which would enable them to be the witnesses God wanted them to be.
**The power of God is the same today as it was yesterday.
God’s power still sets men free. It still brings hope to an otherwise hopeless world. Today, we are the witnesses Jesus sends out. The world is still hopeless, and still hostile. But through us, the love of the Holy Spirit conquers hatred, strife, and bitterness. Through us, the power of the Holy Spirit makes us shine like lights in the darkness.
May your life be a witness for God. I pray that others see Christ shining in you, and that they are drawn by your testimony. May they experience the love of Jesus through your words and your actions, as you walk in the dynamics of the Spirit.
God, help us to receive from You that empowering of Your Spirit in order that we might fulfill the task that You have set before us. In Jesus’ precious name, amen.
