Our Sufficiency
Our Sufficiency
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God…—2 Corinthians 3: 5
Paul had just told the Corinthians, “You are a living letter; you are known and read by all men.” Your life is an example to the world of what God is—His love, His goodness, and His grace. People develop their impressions of God by what they see in you. Like Paul, when you consider this responsibility you may wonder, “Who is sufficient for these things?” But as Paul declares, “Our sufficiency is from God.”
No matter how resourceful or strong you might be, you are going to face situations that are beyond your abilities.
**When you recognize your insufficiency, it causes you to lean upon God for His all-sufficiency.
People often vow to change, only to discover that they don’t have the sufficiency within themselves to keep those promises. But when God is your sufficiency, there is no limit to the power available to you. His grace has no measure; His love has no limits; His power has no boundary known to men. For out of His infinite riches in Jesus, He gives and gives and gives again.
With God’s help and God’s strength, you can overcome any adversity that comes into your life. Acknowledge your limitations. Step out in faith knowing that where you are weak, He is strong, knowing that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
Lord, we thank You that You give strength to the weak. We recognize that You have given us a great responsibility as Your witness to the world, and we recognize that we are not sufficient for the task—but You are. Help us to wait upon You, Lord. Amen.
