WISDOM FOR TODAY
Our Anchor
Our Anchor
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil…—Hebrews 6: 19
Unless you are moored to something solid, it is very easy to drift away. You may not notice any movement at first, but over time, that slow drift can take you far away. You wake up one morning and are shocked to see how far you have gone.
As the psalmist said, “He brought me out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock.”
** In these changing times, we need to be anchored to the unchanging Christ.
After describing the anchor of our soul—which is the hope of Christ’s return—the author of Hebrews mentions the Presence behind the veil. The veil referred to is the thick separation between the Holy Place in the temple and the Holy of Holies—the most holy place. Before Jesus, no one but the high priest could enter that holy place, where God’s presence dwelt. But when Jesus was crucified, it is recorded that the veil of the temple was ripped from the top to the bottom.
That is the only way the separation could be breached—from top (heaven) to bottom (earth). God issued an invitation in that breach. The door is open, and because of the sacrifice of His Son, you can have access to God at any time. “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4: 16).
Lord, we are so grateful for the cross, through which You have provided the hope of eternity and the right to enter into Your presence. May we cling to the Anchor, which is Jesus. Amen.
PS I have a very difficult and important ministry meeting today that I would appreciate your prayers for. Pray that Jesus will speak and the Truth will be shared and hopefully received in love. Thanks! -DS
