WISDOM FOR TODAY
One Mediator
ONE MEDIATOR
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time… —1 Timothy 2: 5-6
It is both arrogant and audacious for finite, sinful man to think we can come brazenly before the eternal, holy God. He is infinitely pure; we are marred by sin. He is light; we dwell in darkness. So how can sinful man ever hope to stand in God’s presence?
There is a way, but only one. Job cried out for a Mediator, a bridge, who could lay His hand on both God and man. And we have that Mediator in Jesus. He who was God became man that He might stand in the gap between God and us.
**No saint can save you—only Jesus can save you.
No saint can stand in the gap for you. Mary can’t do that for you. No matter how holy or how righteous that saint was in his or her lifetime, he was just a man; she was just a woman. You can pray all day long to a dead saint, and that saint will remain helpless to cross the chasm between you and God. Only Jesus can do that for you, because He alone can touch both you and God. He is the one true Mediator God sent to bring us to Himself.
Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the way has been made possible for us to approach the infinite, eternal, holy, pure, and majestic Father. We stand righteous before Him because of the righteousness of our Mediator. Praise God for His Son!
Father, thank You for providing that which Job was crying for, a mediator who would touch us both. Thank You for that hope of eternal life. Help us to do something that will matter in eternity! In Jesus’ name, amen.
