Nothing + Nothing = Nothing
Nothing + Nothing = Nothing
Let him not trust in futile things, deceiving himself, for futility will be his reward.—Job 15: 31
In his attempt to understand why God had stripped Job of all his possessions, Eliphaz reasoned that Job had foolishly put his trust in those possessions. Though Job had not done so, Eliphaz was right in speaking against the folly of those who are lulled into a deceptive sense of security by their wealth.
The Bible warns us repeatedly about deception. Satan deceived Eve by causing her to doubt God’s word and instead put her trust in Satan’s empty promises. Still today, Satan tries to deceive us into thinking that God’s laws aren’t fair or don’t apply to our lives.
**Satan has deceived many people into trusting in emptiness.
It’s a fact: whatever we sow, we reap. Our minds are fertile fields into which we plant seeds each day. If we sow to the flesh, we can’t expect to reap a spiritual harvest. Garbage in; garbage out. Mathematically speaking: nothing plus nothing equals nothing.
Some trust in wealth for security and satisfaction. Some trust in the emptiness of religious activity or ritual. Some trust in the emptiness of their own righteousness. But when you trust in emptiness; emptiness will be your only reward. Don’t be deceived into thinking you can buy your way into God’s grace. Put your hope in Jesus—the way, the truth, and the life.
Lord, may we begin to plant Your Word in the fertile soil of our mind and sow to the Spirit that we might reap eternal life through Jesus Christ. Amen.
PS We also pray dear Lord for your Spirit to have His way in tomorrows church services. May the mighty name of Jesus Christ be magnified and the gospel proclaimed. My many sinners repent and accept you as their Lord and Savior! Thank you for the coming harvest! What part do you wish me to play Lord? Inviting? Encouraging? Discipling?
