Not a Far-Off God
Not a Far-Off God
I will dwell among the children of Israel and will be their God. And they shall know that I am the Lord their God… —Exodus 29: 45-46
Where does God dwell?
You might say He dwells in the universe, but whenever you start talking about the universe, you are describing something so vast and so distant that it can make God seem very far removed.
But God is not remote or far-removed. Paul said that we should not think of God as way-off somewhere in the heaven where we cannot reach Him. The truth is, He is as close as our mouths. “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10: 9).
God is very near. He surrounds us. And we are told in this Scripture that He was near to His people Israel. The tabernacle was to be located in the very center of their camp and the tribes were to camp all around it. The first thing they would see each morning was the ascending smoke of the morning sacrifice—and they would remember that God dwells right in the midst of His people.
**God wants you to know that He is near enough that you can reach out at any time and fellowship with Him.
No matter what your situation or problem, He is close enough. You can reach out today and pray to God, and by that prayer—be healed, helped, and strengthened.
Father, we thank You that You are a God who is near. Manifest Yourself in our lives, Lord, that we would be filled with Your infinite grace and love. Amen.
