No Remedy
And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy. —2 Chronicles 36: 15-16
It is an awesome thing when God declares that there is no cure, no remedy. Such was the tragic case of Judah. They worshiped other gods, refused to listen to the voice of the Lord, and turned their backs on God—until finally He turned His back on them and allowed them to be defeated by their enemies.
**If you refuse God’s remedy, there is no other cure.
In His patience and His compassion, God had sent many prophets to warn Judah. Jeremiah was one such prophet. When he delivered the message that God had determined to turn Judah into the hands of the Babylonians, and that it would go better for them if they submitted to the Babylonians, King Zedekiah imprisoned him as a traitor. God’s remedy had been refused—so God’s wrath was aroused. Whenever there is a problem, God always has a remedy.
For the problem of sin, God has prescribed a remedy, a cure. It is found in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. The Bible tells us that the blood of Christ cleanses us from all our sins. But be warned: If you refuse God’s remedy, there is no other cure.
Father, we are grateful that You have been so patient with us, giving us opportunity again and again to turn from the world to live after You. Lord, help us live before You in a way that is pleasing. In Jesus’ name, amen.
