Moving Mountains
Moving Mountains
“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord of hosts. “Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!” —Zechariah 4: 6-7
The people weren’t prepared for what they found when they came back from captivity. The devastation was overwhelming. Where the temple of God once stood there was now just a huge mountain of rubble. Such a mountain! Discouragement fell on the people as they had tried to remove the rubble. But the word of the Lord came through Zechariah to Zerubbabel, the man leading in the re-building of the temple. “Who are you, O great mountain? You shall become a plain!”
Often when we look at a task the Lord has given us it seems overwhelming. We wonder, “How in the world can this ever be accomplished?” But God’s answer to us is the same as it was to Zerubbabel. “This mountain cannot be moved on your own strength. Only My Spirit can accomplish this work.”
You may be facing a mountain today—a financial mountain, a health mountain, or maybe a relationship mountain. You have tried your hardest to remove the rubble, but you are tired, and weary, and ready to give up.
** It is good to come to the end of yourself. That is when you finally reach for God.
Ask the Holy Spirit for help. Let God show Himself strong on your behalf. Drop your shovel, stand back, and watch Him move that mountain.
Lord, we come to You today weary of the task and drained of our strength. We need Your help. We need the power of Your Holy Spirit to tackle this task. Fill us, Lord. Be our strength today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
