Mortify the Flesh
Mortify the Flesh
Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you were coming out of Egypt, how he met you on the way and attacked your rear ranks, all the stragglers at your rear, when you were tired and weary; and he did not fear God. Therefore it shall be, when the Lord your God has given you rest from your enemies all around, in the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess as an inheritance, that you will blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. You shall not forget. —Deuteronomy 25: 17-19
In biblical typology Amalek is a type of the flesh. Just as Amalek sought to destroy Israel, the flesh seeks to destroy the people of God. When we are born again by the Spirit of God, the enemy, our flesh, comes to do battle. The flesh wars against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh.
**Attacks against our flesh always come in the most vulnerable areas.
In Colossians 3: 5, God tells us to mortify our flesh. We are to put it to death. Those are harsh terms. But you need to remember what the flesh life did to you, how it took advantage of you. Wipe it out! Utterly destroy it! It is a life and death battle. If you yield to the flesh, the flesh will destroy you.
Maybe you are struggling against the flesh and have become weary and tired. The battle is fierce, but God wants to deliver you. The Spirit of God can give you victory over your flesh. Ask God for His help.
Help us, Lord, to reckon the old life dead, that we might live a life that is pleasing and acceptable to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Conquering Fear Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish! —Esther 4: 16…
