Lord Of Heaven And Earth
LORD OF HEAVEN AND EARTH
And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. —Joshua 2:11
Rahab only knew of God by hearsay, and yet she had a clear perception of Him. “He is the God of heaven above,” she said. But because the heavens above are so vast, some people think that God seems far away and impersonal. Though they believe in God as a power or force, they don’t think they can know Him.
But then Rahab went on to say, “He is the God of the earth beneath.” And there is where we come close to Him and begin to understand that He is not just a God of awesome power, but also a God of intricate detail.
Looking at the heavens, God seems remote. Who am I that God should think about me? Yet the psalmist writes, “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand” (Psalm 139: 17-18).
IF YOU WANT A POWERFUL SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE, GO TO THE BEACH AND PICK UP A HANDFUL OF SAND. EVERY GRAIN OF SAND REPRESENTS GOD’S THOUGHTS CONCERNING YOU.
Rahab came to believe in God just by hearsay, but you have more than hearsay. You have God’s clear revelation of Himself in His Word.
Father, we know that You are not just some ethereal energy out in the universe. May we come to know You as a personal, loving God. In Jesus’ name, amen.
