WISDOM FOR TODAY

Just Rest

Just Rest
Then the king said to Zadok, “Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the Lord, He will bring me back and show me both it and His dwelling place. But if He says thus: ‘I have no delight in you,’ here I am, let Him do to me as seems good to Him.” —2 Samuel 15: 25-26
David is fleeing Jerusalem from Absalom and his army. As David’s loyal friends are gathering with him, Zadok, the high priest, comes out of the city gates with some of the Levites who are carrying the sacred ark of the covenant. David said, “I’m not going to depend upon a religious relic to save me. I’m going to depend completely upon God. If God saves me, fine. I will come back. I will see the ark again. But if God doesn’t see fit to save me, then here I am and whatever seems good to Him, let Him do it.”
*David’s life is completely committed to the purpose and the plan that God may have for him.
**I cannot change what God has ordained.
If I seek to fight against the plan of God, then I am destined to lose. If I fight against God, all I will experience is anxiety, futility, and frustration. But when I finally realize there’s nothing left for me to do, I find the place of rest. Knowing that God’s ways are better than mine, knowing that God loves me and is totally aware of the circumstances I’m facing, and acknowledging that I really don’t know the way out, I place it in His hands.
Father, may we cease from our fretting and worrying, and may we just rest knowing that You love us and will do what is best. Amen.
