Heavy Tidings
Heavy Tidings
And so it was, when Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps as she came through the door, he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why do you pretend to be another person? For I have been sent to you with bad news.” —1 Kings 14:6
Jeroboam had once created false gods for the people to worship. But when his son became deathly ill, Jeroboam didn’t seek help from those false gods. Instead, he disguised his wife as a peasant and sent her to seek help from God’s prophet, Ahijah.
** How foolish it is to think that we can hide the truth from God.
He knows the truth. God sees right through all of the disguises, because He sees our hearts.
The prophet was blind, but he certainly wasn’t deaf. He could hear the voice of the Lord, and he passed on God’s message to Jeroboam’s wife. He said to her, “I am come to you with heavy tidings.”
Knowing that God is gracious and full of compassion, I cannot help but believe that had Jeroboam truly repented and sought the Lord with sincerity, God would have touched and healed his son and established his throne forever. But such was not to be.
Hypocrisy only leads to destruction. If your heart isn’t honest before God, you are headed down a dangerous path. But if you drop your disguise and come to God with complete sincerity, He will be quick to lift that heavy burden from you, because He loves you and wants to bless your life.
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness in dealing with us. Lord, we want to hear what You have to say concerning the future. Help us to hear and obey. Amen.

Who Shall Condemn Us?
Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. —Romans 8: 34 “Who is he who condemns?” Answering his own question, Paul said, “It isn’t Jesus Christ; He died for you. In fact, He…

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. —Romans 12: 1 In writing to the church at Corinth, Paul made a point to tell them to be careful about what they do with their bodies. “Do…
