Don’t Worry
Don’t Worry
Do not fret… —Psalm 37: 1
In this life, we are prone to worry about many things. But David gives us the cure for worry in verses 5-7 of this psalm: “Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.… Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him.” If we focus on a problem, it grows. It grows so big it overwhelms us, and we lose sight of the Lord. But when we focus on the Lord—on His love, grace, power, glory, and might—our problems grow so small we can hardly see them.
*** We have to be careful where we focus our attention.
David tells us that when we commit our problems to God, two things happen: He brings it to pass, meaning He works out His will for us, and we find the rest we long for. The psalmist declares that the person who trusts in the Lord shall not fear in the day of evil tidings. You may have heard evil tidings this week that are causing you worry.
Remember: commit it to God, rest in Him, and wait patiently. Leave it in His hands. Worry will do nothing to solve your problems, but trusting brings peace and rest. May the Lord bless you and bring you to that place of faith, trust, commitment, and rest.
Lord, teach us to bring all things to You. When worry threatens to overwhelm, help us to commit our problems into Your hands and rest in the knowledge that You are sovereign and mighty. May we focus our hearts and our lives upon You this day. Amen.
