Conformed into His Image
Conformed into His Image
His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue…—2 Peter 1: 3
God desires that we be as He is. “Be holy, for I am holy” (1 Peter 1: 16). So it should be the goal and desire of every believer to be conformed into the image of Jesus Christ—to be holy as He is holy, pure as He is pure, perfect (or complete, mature) as He is perfect and complete.
In Genesis, we read that God created man in His image. But when man sinned and fell from the image of God, his spirit died. It is God’s desire to restore man back into His image. And according to this passage of Scripture, God has provided everything we need to live a life of glorious virtue.
** Just having a desire to live a godly life is not enough. Apart from the empowering of God, it’s impossible to live a godly life. It is through the relationship we have with Jesus that we become like Him. And it is by the power of the Word, planted deep in the fertile soil of our hearts, that we become transformed into the image of Jesus Christ.
One day the Word of God and the Spirit of God will have completed their work in us and we will once again be in the image of God. “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1: 6).
Father, teach us to walk closely to You and to love Your Word, that we would be conformed again into Your image. In Jesus’ name, amen.
