Cast Your Burden on the Lord
Cast Your Burden on the Lord
Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.—Psalm 55: 22
It is believed that David wrote this psalm when his son, Absalom, rebelled against him. His closest friend, Ahithophel, had also turned against him at this same time. Brokenhearted and filled with fear, David at first sought escape. But then he stopped and said, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you.”
**Peace comes when we turn those overwhelming issues over to God and cease trying to dictate the outcome.
David showed wisdom by turning his problem over to God. The prophet Isaiah said, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26: 3). But if you are trying to maneuver a situation to gain the outcome you desire, you will have distress.
We find the strength to let go when we remember that God is a doting Father who loves and cares for His own. He is not going to allow anything to come into your life to destroy you. His intent is to build up your relationship so that you are able to trust Him when unexpected losses or disappointments come.
Cast your cares upon Him and leave them there. Trust in the Lord. He will take care of whatever burdens you have been carrying.
Father, we thank You that in the midst of all of our confusion—the pressures of life, disappointments in relationships, painful losses—You are there to help us. Teach us to cast all our cares at Your feet. In Jesus’ name, amen.
