Beautiful Deliverance
Beautiful Deliverance
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. —Galatians 2: 20
God wants to give us victory over sin. He knows we are tempted at every turn, and He wants to free us from both the temptation and the consequences of sin. His solution is for us to put the flesh life to death. Paul wrote, “Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin” (Romans 6: 6). “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness…. For sin shall not have dominion over you” (Romans 6: 12-14).
**The old, sinful nature doesn’t have to rule us anymore.
When temptation arises, we can reckon that old nature to be crucified with Christ. When we fall, we can bring that sin right back to the cross and say, “I have been crucified—that sin cannot have dominion over me; I won’t be ruled by that.” And gradually, slowly, the Lord will begin to deliver us from that sin until it is no longer attractive to us.
How beautiful it is when God does for us what we could not do for ourselves—deliver us.
Father, we thank You for the victory that we have through Jesus Christ over the power that sin once held over us. Help us, Lord, to grasp these truths and to live in righteousness and peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
