WISDOM FOR TODAY
Be Not Afraid
Be Not Afraid
I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,” says the Lord, “and I will heal him.” But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. —Isaiah 57: 19-20
Can you imagine God pacing the floor, worried and stressed over some situation? It doesn’t happen. He inspired the prophet Isaiah to write, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26: 3).
**He is a God of perfect peace; and He desires that same peace for His children.
And near the end of His earthly ministry, Jesus promised, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you … Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14: 27).
Paul said the peace of God is a peace that passes human understanding (Philippians 4: 7). In a world filled with tremendous pressure and turmoil, how wonderful it is to experience such comfort.
Satan often tries to take me away from the peace of God by whispering, “But what if…?” If you listen to Satan’s challenges, you will begin to lose God’s peace. You begin to wonder, “How will I work my problem out?” “Don’t be afraid,” Jesus said. “Keep your mind stayed on God,” Isaiah said.
Remember the wisdom in those words. And remember that when we have no answers, God knows all. Trust Him— and take the peace He offers.
Father, we thank You for the gift of peace, and we offer our lives that You would rule and reign in our hearts. Teach us to keep our hearts and our minds steadfast in Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ precious name, amen.
