WISDOM FOR TODAY
An Invitation
An Invitation
Come, my beloved… let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine has budded, whether the grape blossoms are open, and the pomegranates are in bloom. There I will give you my love. —Song of Solomon 7: 11-12
Desiring intimacy with him, Solomon’s bride issues an invitation to her beloved. She asks him to come with her to examine the fruit in the vineyard.
Have you ever invited the Lord to inspect your life in this way? If He were to look over your life, would He see that you are bearing the fruit of the Spirit? If present in your life, the fruit of the Spirit will demonstrate itself as patience, gentleness, goodness, longsuffering, and meekness.
**Invite the Lord to inspect your life.
Sometimes, when we invite the Lord to inspect the garden of our lives, we realize we have been neglectful. We have let the busyness and cares of life keep us from tending the garden as we should. Thorns have grown up and choked out some of the sweetness and beauty that should be there. Fruit isn’t developing.
It is then that we realize how much we need the Lord. We need Him to search us, to know our hearts, to try our thoughts.
Call upon the Lord to examine your life. Sit at His feet and pour your heart out to Him. Receive the love He gives you in return. Don’t neglect the One who loves you. The time you spend with God is more important than any work you could ever do for Him.
Lord, come into Your garden and examine the fruit of our lives. May You be pleased with what You see there. Lord, we want to spend more time with You sharing love together in sweet communion. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

True Forgiveness Then Peter came to him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “… up to seventy times seven.” —Matthew 18: 21-22 I have a suspicion that Peter was hoping to impress the Lord with this question. In…
