An Inescapable Law
An Inescapable Law
And Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me.” Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died. —Judges 1: 7
Adoni-Bezek was a powerful king. He had conquered seventy other kingdoms, and cut off the thumbs and big toes of each defeated king. When he was finally conquered by the men of Judah, what did they do? They cut off his thumbs and big toes. And he said, “As I have done to others, so God has requited me.”
In the New Testament we read, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Galatians 6: 7).
**We often get upset because we think someone is getting by with evil deeds. But sooner or later, their sins will catch up with them.
The law of reaping what you sow is an inescapable law. But it is also a beautiful law. If you sow love, kindness, and forgiveness, you will reap love, kindness, and forgiveness. If you sow mercy, you will reap mercy.
Maybe your past is dark and dismal, and you have sown a lot of bad seed. Take heart. God has made a way that you don’t have to reap what you have sown. He took the guilt of your iniquity and laid it all upon His Son. Jesus Christ reaped the consequences for you—that you might reap the glory of God’s love and eternal kingdom.
Help us, Lord, that we might sow good seeds in the hearts and lives of those around us; that we might reap, Lord, the beautiful fruit of that harvest. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Immediately after creating Adam and Eve, God commanded them to “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28). One of His primary purposes for marriage was offspring who would fill the earth with God’s praise and…

Loving Disruption Moab has been at ease from his youth; he has settled on his dregs, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, nor has he gone into captivity. Therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent has not changed. —Jeremiah 48: 11 Moab— situated as they were in wine country— would…
