ABBA, Father
Abba, Father
And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” —Galatians 4: 6
I am not a son of God by natural birth; I am a son of God by a new birth, being born again by His Spirit. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father'” (Romans 8: 14-15).
Abba is the Hebrew word for father, but it is more like our English word “daddy.” It has an endearing, intimate quality to it.
**We need to believe that God is our Abba, Father.
Some people profess that because God is so awesome, we should not even say His name. Others, though, get too chummy, too casual with God. They refer to Him as “The Big Daddy upstairs.”
We need a balance between the two. We need to know that God is our Father, that He is our Abba. We need to understand that we can have that kind of beautiful intimacy with Him. But it is also important that we have the deepest reverence and respect for Him, that we never get to a place where we think of Him casually.
May we, as His children, call upon our Abba, Father, and realize the benefits of this glorious inheritance that we have in Jesus Christ, the blessings that are ours by being a child of God. Father, we thank You for the provision through Jesus, that we who were once foreigners can now be called Your children.
Thank You, Abba, Father, for the riches that are ours in and through Christ Jesus. Amen
